About

I’m a Geelong photographer who grew up taking photos. My interest in photography started as a nine-year-old when, visiting my great grandmother in England, she gave me my first camera. I have been taking photos ever since. Travelling opened my eyes to the beautiful people and places around us and my camera became a way to share that beauty with others. After moving to Canada, where I stayed for 12 years and met my husband, I started taking as many photographs as I could. The natural progression was to start my own portrait business and my path as a professional photographer began.

We moved back to Geelong in 2007 and I started Mary Thompson Photographer in 2011 after my daughter started kindergarten. I love capturing people for who they are. Whether it is a business owner who is passionate about their product or service, a family who want a unique experience in outdoor portrait photography or an amazingly planned event I love to be there to photograph it. Photography is my passion and my business.

My clients describe my images as modern, fun, happy, colourful, earthy and natural. I try to bring these elements out in any work I do, including images of family and children, commercial photos and kindergarten photography.
